Introducing the Gardening with Disabilities Trust
The Trust was founded back in 1968, by a far-sighted philanthropist, Mrs Peggy Kinsey. She understood the real value of what we now know as 'horticultural therapy'...that is, getting outside in the fresh air, being a little active, ''getting the soil under the fingernails'' (her words) and that very special pleasure which is gardening.
Her Trust was founded in the spirit of generosity, energy, and enthusiasm; values which are very much in evidence within the Trust, half a century later.
In the intervening years, although the essence of all that we do has remained the same, we support people with a much wider spectrum of disabilities, and so in 2021 we made a small change to our name and became the Gardening with Disabilities Trust. Nothing else has changed (and we made the change on a tiny shoestring, thanks to the generosity of our friends with creative and IT expertise).
